Acupuncture is a highly versatile modality, with applications that range from muscular dysfunctions, pain management, allergy, menstruation dysfunctions, post surgery care, to facial rejuvenation, and many more.

For me, acupuncture is first and foremost a manual modality and it is one of the most effective modalities for treating soft tissue related problems.  By soft tissues, I mean skeletal muscles, meanings the muscles that wrap around your body; muscles that you can activate or de-activate consciously.  These muscles get over used all the time, whether it's from your athletic trainings, or daily repetitive use from work, or habitual posture, etc.  Pain, soreness, achiness, tightness, etc. from muscle over use is something we all experience and can relate to.  When your body is tight, it also constantly sends a signal back to your nervous system, which in effect is told not to relax.  And the nervous system then constantly keeps up neuron activities to maintain a high level of muscle tone to prepare to fight or flight.  A vicious circle thus ensues.  When a patient seeks treatment, it means the body/mind has already taken a toll and it needs some care and help.

In other words, this is a more nuianced way of interpreting the old adage of "how stress kills you"...  To be more precise, stress doesn't kill you per se, rather, it's your stress responses that are killing you.  To be even more precise, it's the cumulative residual stress responses that you are carrying on your body that are sapping your life away.

So my clinic practice is built on breaking this vicious circle for you by relaxing your muscles and your nervous sytem, which is usually the root cause of most patients' chief complaints.

In my clinic practice, I always start by needling points that relax the mind and the abdomen first.  I also palpate extensively to ensure the most precise point locations, specific to that patient.  The needling is gentle, smooth, with minimal manipulation.  This is an essential requisitive process that helps to relax the patients and allows their body and mind a chance to cooperate for 20-25 minutes.  After that, I use a combination of needling with electrical stimulation to further relax deep stubborn muscles like the traps, lower-back, and gluts, areas of most common chief complaints.
